Mississippi Driver’s Education Act (SB 2695) Summary

    Effective Dates:
  • 2026–2027 School Year: All public high schools are required to offer Driver’s Ed.

  • July 1, 2027: Completion of a certified course becomes mandatory for all new teen drivers to receive a license.

    Course Requirements:
  • Classroom Instruction: 24 hours (minimum).

  • Behind-the-Wheel: 6 hours (minimum).

  • Specialized Training: Must include safety for pedestrians/cyclists and traffic stop protocols.

    Who is Covered?
  • Public school students (via their district).

  • Home-schooled students and adults (via Department of Public Safety programs).
